What about the Samsung Galaxy S9?

Presented officially in February 2018 at the MWC (Mobile World Congress), Samsung’s latest Galaxy still generated a lot of enthusiasm.
S9 has a public release date of March 16, 2018, but it is already available for those who have purchased pre-order for a few days.
We will not hide it but the S9 is a copy of the S8 from an aesthetic point of view, but what is it technically worth?
This is what we will see in this article.

Characteristics

Before getting into the subject and as I regularly do each presentation of a new smartphone, here is the identity card, if I can afford the term of the Samsung Galaxy S9.

BONE Android O (8.0) + Overlay Experience 9.0

If all these figures are gibberish for you, here is a summary of information.
We have here a bright AMOLED screen of 5.8 inches with a double curved screen, it’s beautiful!
His color is really great, he is awesome purple and blue coral. If you are more classic, you can also buy it in midnight black and titanium gray.
The processor is fast and performs the necessary tasks while managing carefree games without worries.
A full battery will take you from morning to night but do not lie, navigation and streaming will exhaust faster.
Very bright photosensor, nice outdoor photos with no less than 12 megapixels.
The music is not forgotten, we have here a system with two speakers for a rich and powerful sound.
Improved placement of the fingerprint reader makes mobile payments more convenient.
Wireless charging and water resistance rating (IP68) give it an edge over most phones, as do previous Galaxy models.

The double-aperture camera makes many pictures gloomy, unrealistic and unclear. There are less contrast and texture than other phones.
Count almost 900 € to acquire it, protect it at all costs with Galaxy S9 covers!
The 3D avatars you create with AR Emoji do not follow your expressions well and require many more customization options.
Intelligent Scan, a new unlock option that uses your face, is not secure and does not seem to solve an existing problem.
The camera switches too easily between modes, which is frustrating when you are not where you want to be.
With super slow motion video, the auto mode is not very useful and the image quality is lower than the normal resolution.

Verdict?

The Samsung S series are still great smartphones, we will not hide the face but this S9 has not really evolved since his little brother, the Galaxy S8, for my taste.
Indeed we have here a design and a very screen (or too much I should say) similar to the 2017 version.
The improved biometric data was badly needed and the camera is certainly a leap forward, but I was expecting a plus anyway.

The S9 has everything on his camera but photos in low light are often blurred and lack texture and contrast with the competition.
The 3D avatar software is tragically bad and this new face unlocking tool does not look very secure.
Besides, the Galaxy S9 is more expensive than the Galaxy S8 of last year.

It is a very good smartphone, do not veil the face but if you already have the S8, it is not necessary to pass the course.
I recommend instead to wait for the new version or why not the S9 Plus that I will present in the next article.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9: specifications, price and date of sale

All about the new Samsung Galaxy Note 9

It was 2011 when Samsung revolutionized the phone market with the original Galaxy Note. And overnight, the mobiles changed forever. Initially ridiculed by its then huge screen of 5.3 inches, this phone created a whole category for himself (that of the phablets) and recovered to surprise of own and strangers the reviled stylus, which had been banished with the disappearance of the PDAs. Seven years later Samsung returns to the fray with its best Note to date.

The new Galaxy Note 9, which ends up being presented at a lavish event held in New York, aims to be a device open to the professional public, but also to fans of mobile photography and even video games. For this, it will make use of sensational hardware, but also reviews key aspects of the device such as the S Pen.

More power and autonomy

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

The more power, the higher the energy consumption. And if a larger screen is added, the need to introduce a high-capacity battery to cope with day-to-day demands is even more pressing. For this reason, Samsung has decided to provide the Galaxy Note 9 with a battery higher performance than usual. In total there will be 4,000 mAh to spend all day playing with the mobile, which with a screen of 6.4 inches and 2960 x 1440 pixels is the largest Note to date.

This huge surface has HDR support to enjoy the most advanced content and is manufactured using Super OLED technology, so it has an outstanding contrast and absolute black. Beyond leisure, it also allows the Galaxy Note 9 to unleash its full potential, and it should be remembered that this phone is especially prized by professionals for its ability to take handwritten notes and draw diagrams intuitively using the S Pen.

Samsung has equipped its new flagship with an advanced eight-core processor, so Android 8.1 (which will be upgradeable to Android 9) should go smoothly. It is very curious that there will be two RAM configurations since Samsung will sell the phone in variants with 6 and 8 GB of system memory. From the outset, Spain will remain the most advanced, since it has always been considered a very high-end telephone aimed at a particularly demanding public.

Something similar happens with the storage capacity, which may be 128 GB or 512 GB. The confirmed version for Spain is the second. In this way the phone will have no less than half a Terabyte of storage for applications and multimedia content, and that the ability to capture 4K of their cameras could put some users in trouble. As usual, microSD cards can also be used.

Also say for the most vicious that Samsung has reached an agreement with Epic, the famous American studio known for the video game Fortnite. Its long-awaited mobile version will enter beta this week, and owners of a Galaxy device (including the Galaxy Note 9) will be able to enjoy its download before the rest. The software exclusives jump well from the world of consoles to reach the telephone market.

Finally, we can point out two other remarkable features of this brand new terminal: water resistance with IP68 level and speakers tuned by the specialist AKG that make this Note the most sonorous to date.

The best camera is ever seen in a Note

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

If we have to talk about mobile photography, Samsung has very few rivals within the Android landscape. The South Korean company began to bet strongly on the cameras with the development of its own sensors several years ago, and the Galaxy Note 9 treasures its latest advances in terms of static image and video capture. And with that screen, we are in front of a mobile that invites us to boast of photos.

The rear camera of the Galaxy Note 9 uses the increasingly usual double sensor configuration, albeit with its own spin. With a total of 12 megapixels, it uses a sensor with an aperture of f2.4 and another one of f.15, so that it can adjust with great precision the amount of light of each photograph and combine with software several photographs to provide HDR effects improved at night.

It is not the only interesting benefit. Samsung, which also aspires to be a leading firm in artificial intelligence, has equipped its camera with a specialized processing software to detect the presence of fingerprints and dirt on the lenses, warning you when a photo can be blurred due to a dedazo. Moreover, it can also alert you if you notice that someone has blinked in a group photo.

The Galaxy Note 9 camera software also incorporates artificial intelligence processing to identify scenes and improve them as much as possible. In this way the photos you take will always be calibrated on the fly and without touching the manual parameters, since the phone itself will be responsible for detecting if you want to photograph your pet with a hamburger, taking care to mark the most appropriate setting to adjust brightness and contrast automatically.

The camera application, in any case, has a secret weapon. And this was not expected by anyone.

The pen is now a remote control

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Just as the S Pen has accompanied the Galaxy Note since its inception, this practical accessory has not evolved much beyond providing more and more sensitivity to achieve a few strokes close to those of a real pencil. With the Galaxy Note 9, it also gains remote control functions.

As you read: the new S Pen allows you to control your mobile remotely. This is possible thanks to the integration of Bluetooth technology inside, which will allow us to take pictures by pressing a button (much more practical than putting a countdown if we want to leave the mobile out of reach), but also control YouTube without touching the screen and even pass the presentations of a PowerPoint file.

To achieve all this the S Pen now has its own battery, which is charged in a matter of seconds by simply keeping the pen inside the phone. It is also possible to use it to draw and launch applications without having to load it, exactly as with any previous Galaxy Note. This is an extremely interesting feature, considering that the Note 9 will be able to connect to projectors and monitors using a USB-C to HDMI adapter (and without a DeX expansion base, as it was up to now), making it practically a Pocket PC.

It should be noted that Samsung will open the functions of its new Pen S Pen to all interested developers. With this measure, the company expects more and more applications to support its remote control functions, which in turn should result in greater playful and productive potential.

Available on August 24 at El Corte Inglés

Although the presentation event of the Galaxy Note 9 has taken place in New York, the evening could also be followed live from El Corte Inglés de Callao. Samsung prepared a special event to provide the first advance to local media, also providing the first details related to the availability of this desired device.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 can already be purchased at El Corte Inglés. Initially, the chosen version for Spain will be the model with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, which will have a price of 1,259 euros. The 128 GB model will be added soon after, for 1,009 euros. You will be accompanied by a high-quality headset and you will have early access to Fortnite.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 will consist of three devices

Samsung Galaxy S10 concept Ben Geskin design 600x416

Samsung is reportedly preparing the three new devices that will be the new Galaxy S10 series, one of which will be able to offer access to 5G networks.

At the same time, the Korean company reportedly is preparing the expected smartphone for quite some time now. All of the revelations were made in Bloomberg from an unnamed source, most likely a Samsung executive.

The basic model of the Galaxy S10, according to Bloomberg, will feature a 5.8-inch AMOLED diagonal screen and a triple main camera that features a “normal” lens, a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. Additionally, it will feature an in-display fingerprint scanner and a front camera that will also be located below the screen.

The Plus model of the series will have the same basic features as it will have a larger diagonal screen. The S10’s ‘financial’ device will feature a flat AMOLED screen and probably a fingerprint scanner on the side. The article does not mention anything about the cameras but we could assume that it will feature a main camera consisting of a lens.

With regard to Samsung’s foldable smartphone, Bloomberg says it will be the company’s drive to dominate a new market, which however has the potential to grow in the future. We should not forget that until now no manufacturer has presented a device with a foldable screen while Huawei promises to present its own soon.

From Korea, similar publications confirm the existence of the in-display fingerprint scanner in the Galaxy S10 series. At the same time, there is the talk of differentiating the devices according to the processor they will “wear”. According to the Korean website ETNews, there will be a difference in the design of the Exynos processor models from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors.

The Korean publication does not mention the type of processors selected by Samsung for the Galaxy S10 series, but Samsung has already announced it is ready to go ahead with the 7nm processor architecture (Exynos). In addition, TSMC will take on the construction of 7nm processors for Qualcomm, which will equip the next Android flags, and therefore the Galaxy S10 family in some markets.

The Galaxy S10 family is expected to make its official appearance either at the beginning of January at CES 2018 in Las Vegas or at the end of February during the MWC 2018 in Barcelona.

view

This Samsung dock is a very useful gadget that is used to connect a Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and use the smartphone as a desktop PC to manage files, use multiple applications, play games, watch movies, surf the internet and more.

The Samsung Dock has two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, an HDMI port and a USB-C port on the back.

USB 2.0 ports can be used to charge and connect external flash drives, etc., which is useful for transferring files quickly and efficiently.

The HDMI port is used to connect to a 1080p HDMI monitor. You can connect to monitors with higher resolutions, such as 4K, but the docking station does not support this resolution and will need to be reduced.

The use of the docking station and its configuration are simple and straightforward. You simply place the smartphone on the docking station and the DEX software automatically loads on the connected external monitor.

The keyboard and mouse can be connected to the docking station via the USB 2.0 ports or via Bluetooth on the smartphone using a compatible Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. You also have the on-screen keyboard option.

For games, this dock is excellent. I played games on the big screen and it was so much more entertaining and it allowed me to play games that I usually play on my phone screen on a big external screen but the games are limited because some games require a touch interface.

I used this docking station to surf the Internet, watch YouTube videos, send emails, listen to music, watch movies, transfer files and more, and the performance was excellent.

This added docking station with an external keyboard, monitor and mouse have turned my smartphone into a portable desktop computer that is reliable and feature-rich and adds a whole new dimension of use and capacity to my smartphone.

A few things to note with the Samsung DEX is the fact that no AC adapter or cables are included in the package (the S8 / S8 + quick charger/cables can be used with the Samsung DEX).

This Samsung DeX Dock is a marvel in that it handles perfectly multitasking. All together and very intuitive, practical and especially fast!
We can do almost everything on this dex (mail, gallery, internet, compatible applications).
This doc is also cooled by a fan and allows, of course, recharge the phone at the same time.
The only downside remains for me a fairly large price, more than 150 € but it’s the price you need to turn your S8 into a pocket computer!

Samsung: New ISOCELL 0.8μm image sensors for smartphones

Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1GD1 4 600x406

Samsung Electronics announced two new 0.8 micrometers (μm) pixel image sensors, the 48 Megapixel Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 and 32 Megapixel ISOCELL Bright GD1.

As cameras have become a key feature of today’s mobile phones, smartphone manufacturers are being asked to incorporate multiple cameras into new models, while maintaining stylish design. With reduced pixel size, the new sensors provide greater flexibility in design, allowing camera manufacturers to create smaller units or incorporate more pixels into existing designs, and thus allow smartphone makers to maximize space utilization in minutes, without frames, smartphones.

The GM1 and GD1 sensors are based on the company’s latest pixel isolation technology – ISOCELL Plus – which optimizes performance for smaller pixel pixels, making them the ideal solution for today’s ultra-high resolution cameras. In addition, thanks to the Tetra cell technology, where four pixels merge to function as one to increase sensitivity to light, GM1 and GD1 provide a light sensitivity level equal to that offered by a 1.6μm pixel image sensor at 12 and 8 Megapixel analysis, respectively. In addition, the sensors support gyro-based electronic image stabilization (EIS) for fast and accurate image capture.

Real-time HDR has been added to GD1 for even more balanced light exposure, richer colors and detail in creating self-videos or streaming live video content even in low-light and high contrast environments.

Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 and GD1 are expected to be released in mass production in the fourth quarter of 2018.

It is worth mentioning that Samsung has first announced ISOCELL technology in 2013, which reduces color variations between pixels by placing a natural hurdle and allowing small pixels to achieve higher color fidelity. Based on this technology, Samsung introduced the industry’s first image sensor 1.0um-pixel in 2015 and the 0.9-pixel sensor in 2017. In June 2018, Samsung introduced an upgraded pixel isolation technology, ISOCELL Plus.

“Demand for very small, high-resolution sensors is growing, as smartphones are evolving to offer new and even more exciting experiences,” said Ben K. Hur, vice president of Marketing Systems LSI at Samsung Electronics. “With the introduction of Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GM1 and GD1 0.8-m pixels, which are at the cutting edge of technology, we are committed to continuing to drive innovative advances in image sensor technologies.”

New leak reveals everything around the Samsung Galaxy S9

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus leak 600x400

The new Samsung Galaxy S9 series will be officially unveiled this coming Sunday, but after the last leaks, virtually nothing is hidden.

The reason for the revelations is once again Evan Blass, through his Twitter account staff, and the German WinFuture website, which reveals all the details of the technical features of Samsung’s new flagship.

As the company looks to have focused on the new camera, the Galaxy S9 comes with a single camera while the Galaxy S9 + with dual camera. However, both devices will have the ability to alternate lens exposure between f / 1.5 and f / 2.4 values, allowing users to take better pictures in low light conditions (f / 1.5) or in exceptional brightness conditions (f / 2.4).

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus leak 03 327x600

Additionally, the Galaxy S9 will be capable of capturing video at 960 frames per second, and in particular, the Galaxy S9 + will incorporate dual-pixel technology and laser-assisted autofocus. Both devices will have the capability of slow-motion video capture and a visual stabilization system.

As far as the other technical features are concerned, there will be SuperAMOLED screens with the resolution reaching 2960 x 1440 pixels on both devices, stereo speakers and of course the eye iris scanner as a means of unlocking the phone. The S9 will have a diagonal screen of 5.8 inches while the S9 + will have a diagonal screen of 6.2 inches.

The processor will be the eight-hour SoC Exynos 9810 clocked at 2.9GHz while the models released in the United States will feature the SoC Snapdragon 845 with its 2.6GHz clocks. On a memory level, the smallest model will come with 4GB of RAM, while the larger device with RGB size of 6GB. At the storage level, the S9 and S9 + will have 64GB with an additional slot for inserting a memory card.

The S9 battery will have a capacity of 3,000mAh, while the larger S9 + will use a 3.500mAh battery. Now, all that remains to be proved is what element Samsung has managed to keep hidden for the official presentation of the coming Sunday, just before the MWC 2018 opens its gates.
